A nice dark wavy grain in this bowl really shows off the inlay of
turquoise and coral. It measures 7 inches by 3 inches

I like this bowl because of the yellow sapwood. The nice thing about
mesquite sapwood is that it is just as hard and stable as the heartwood.
I was able to inlay the turquoise and coral into popped out bark pockets.

MESQUITE CHIP & DIP # 503

This is what I call a chip & dip bowl. It should be a little bigger,
it measures 10 inches by 2 inches, and I think 14 or 16 inches would
be a better size.

This is a Southwest pottery style bowl measuring 10 inches by 5 inches.
Sleeping Beauty turquoise and blood coral are the stones used for accent.

MESQUITE / TURQUOISE BOWL #487

A partly burl grain with ingrown bark left in the bowl. I like leaving this type bark on the bowls but it can be risky if I don't get it all stabilized properly. The risk involves shrinkage of the bark that has been growing inside of the tree and has been kept in a constant state of high moisture content, and now is starting to dry out, therefore the purpose of stabilizing it with cyanoacrylate adhesive, or CA glue. The effect can be beautiful if all goes according to plan.

Mesquite/ Turquoise Bowl #486

A good example of burl grain pattern. On the right side of the bowl I left some ingrown bark and stabilized it with CA glue. I then did a thin outline with turquoise, and put larger stone in the center.

MY NEW LATHE

This is my new Jet lathe. My old Delta got tired and went into retirement. The Jet has a little more horse power, but has the same amount of swing. It also is alot more sturdy, I hope this one has a long and happy life. Back to work!

Small Bowl

This is a small bowl you could use for candy,nuts, or for just about anything. In this piece I added red coral with the turquoise, it adds an interesting contrast.

Large Candy Dish

In this bowl I have incorporated sap wood in the design.Sap wood in mesquite is very stable and will be as hard as the heart wood.Again, turquoise is used to accent the piece.

SOUTHWEST BOWL

. This design was inspired by the
pottery of Southwest native american
people. I inlayed Sleeping Beauty turquoise, from Globe AZ into cracks and fissures in the bowl that really compliments the wood grain.
